Make Your Eyeliner Smudge-Proof

I love how eyeliner makes my eyes look bigger, but I rarely wore it before as I’ve always gotten raccoon eyes before the end of the night.  All the products I’ve tried were no match for my oily lids.  They only stayed pristine for an hour or two, and then I had to rush to the ladies’ room to repair the damage with concealer.

After a few google searches, I decided to try using a primer before my eye makeup.  The first one I tested was Eyes Lips Face’s Eyelid Primer.

Although my pencil eyeliner stayed a while longer, I still got some smudges after a few hours.

Finally, I decided to get the “Holy Grail” of all eye primers – Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

I’m happy to say that I haven’t been getting raccoon eyes since!  I can now be brave and do winged liners too! 🙂

Tips for applying eye primer and liner –
1. Put concealer first as it doesn’t go on as smooth after applying primer.
2. Use primer only for lids.  I found that it messes with my cream concealer and makes my under eyes look flaky.
3. Make sure to apply the primer on your lash line where you’ll be drawing your eyeliner.
4. Always dust with a bit of powder to set after lining!

Tip for choosing your eyeliner –
Swatch your choices on the back of your hand.  Wait a few minutes and try smudging them with your finger.  The one that stays best, wins!

So which ones passed my swatch test?

For pencil, I recommend Mac’s Pro Longwear Eye Liner.

For gel, it’s Laura Mercier’s creme liner .

I love Laura Mercier’s angled liner brush too.

I used Laura Mercier’s creme liner in Espresso to create this winged look.
